Systems Administrator


Selecta Biosciences is seeking a talented Systems Administrator to join our fast paced and growing company!  In this newly created position, the Systems Administrator will manage the IT system infrastructure and provide support for the day-to-day operations.  This will include designing, implementing, organizing, modifying, troubleshooting, maintaining, and supporting Selecta's IT computer systems and any related processes.  Position is also responsible for the network administration including designing and installing LANs, WANs, Internet and intranet systems, and network segments.

 Principal duties/responsibilities

  • Administer servers, desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, Shoretel phone system, smartphones, software deployment, security updates and patches.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems reported by users.
  • Identify user needs.
  • Maintain network facilities in individual machines, such as drivers and settings of personal computers as well as printers.
  • Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems.
  • Ensure design of system allows all components to work properly together.
  • Make recommendations for future upgrades.
  • Maintain network system efficiency and security.
  • Analyze and isolate issues.
  • Monitor networks to ensure security and availability to specific users.
  • Evaluate and modify system's performance.
  • Maintain integrity of the network, and security.
  • Ensure network connectivity throughout a company's LAN/WAN infrastructure is on par with technical considerations.
  • Design and deploy networks.
  • Perform network address assignment.
  • Assign configuration of authentication and authorization of directory services.
  • Support management of network servers such as file servers, VPN gateways, and intrusion detection systems in conjunction with 3rd party provider.
  • Develop and maintain policies in support of network security, proper use of networks and equipment, and insure compliance with SOX and GMP requirements.
  • Help support cloud based application needs and services.

Communications/Interpersonal Contacts

  • Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues.
  • Work closely with third party systems support company for "off hours" coverage, server management and support, and project support implementation as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S.) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years system administration/desktop servicing experience preferably in publically traded, biotech or pharmaceutical development companies
  • Certifications: Microsoft MCSA or equivalent preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft 365/Exchange administration and security required
  • Experience with Mimecast a plus
  • Knowledge of SOX, GMP, and CFR Part 11 compliance preferred
  • Knowledge of Shoretel phone system a plus
  • Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Microsoft a plus
  • Exceptionally detailed oriented and organizational skills with ability to work independently and under tight deadlines

Working Conditions/Physical Effort

  • Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice.
  • No regular travel required
